Rohnert Park has been a pioneer in adopting an emerging practice of replacing traditional law enforcement responders to 9-1-1 calls involving people in crisis that include mental health, substance abuse, or homelessness. In October 2021, Rohnert Park and Cotati partnered with Petaluma People Services Center (PPSC) to start a mobile mental health crisis response team for our cities known as SAFE (Specialized Assistance For Everyone). After working for more than a year to provide services for 12-18 hours each day, the SAFE Team is now operating 24 hours each day, and the team consists of a crisis worker and medic (e.
